During the month of April in the sanctuary, we will experience God’s prescription for how we can practically become overcomers in this world through praise, increased faith, powerful prayer and actual behaviors that show we are becoming like Jesus in our character. This morning as one church body, we celebrate that Jesus is alive and present with us. "This is how God showed His love among us; He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him." I John 4:9

Today is the sixth Sunday of the Christian season of Lent. Lent is a time for repentance and renewal. This Lent, we focus on the vertical bridge from earth-to-heaven made possible by Jesus in his crucifixion. Are we willing to intentionally live vertically in Lent? Are we willing to repent and then be renewed so that we can celebrate the glory of our resurrected King on Easter? This is an invitation for us.

Since Lent is a season for repentance and renewal, these actions invite us to review the vertical (relationship with God through Christ) before the horizontal (relationship with people.)

In Advent, we remember that God's promise was fully realized through Jesus, who established the dynasty or reign of God forever-though much differently than David imagined!

Jesus began his ministry by quoting Isaiah 61:1-2. He preached God's deliverance for the righteous poor. Isaiah announces good neews of God's deliverance to all his righteous people who have been unjustly treated.

Hope: Isaiah called for the exiled people to "prepare a highway" through the desert wilderness so that God "could lead them home."

Leaning on God's Faithfulness

What will it mean for us to embrace the story as it moves toward the end?

We hear the story of the earliest days of the new community which continued Jesus' mission in the world.

We hear the story of the One who embodies God's love and faithfulness, and who opens the way for a new covenant.

We hear the story of the first three kings of Israel...The prophet Samuel tried to warn the Hebres of the price they would pay for having a King, but they refused to listen.

God's mission is to mend a broken universe; God will not abandon creation to the ruin that humanity's sin has brought upon it. God's plan is to mend the universe is to bless the whole world through his people, the children of Israel.
