What is the Leaders for the Harvest Ministry?
“Emerging Leaders will be identified, discipled, developed and deployed
as the Holy Spirit directs.”
Mission…
To teach, catechize, emerge, equip, enrich and commission leaders for God’s Kingdom purposes through the work of the Church.
Vision…
To facilitate a life-long approach to the identification and development of Christian leaders in the context of the local church.
Values…
Biblically based…Christian leadership is unique in that it aligns itself with God’s Kingdom purposes (Eph. 2:10), and therefore, must be informed by a biblical base which gives attention to issues of leadership development related to intimacy with God, components of identity, and what it means to live and serve as a Christian leader incarnationally.
Church Based…a leadership center approach places the central responsibility of Christian leadership development in the context of the local church, with leadership educational resources assisting in a supplemental nature. The local church, or cluster of churches working together become the primary place for intentional leadership development, which over time influences the church leadership culture.
Life-Long Approach…the leadership mandate found in Hebrews 13:7-8 encourages the imitation of Christian leaders who have finished well. This admonition invites a strategic approach to the character, skill and strategic formations of a Christian leader. Three categories seek to address these critical formations over the course of a leader’s life-long development:
- Emerging: for disciples who reflect leadership potential as laity or a tendency toward vocational ministry,
- Equipping: for disciples seeking leadership skill development or vocational preparation for ministry,
- Enriching: for the ongoing development of disciples toward greater focus in developing themselves and others as leaders,
in an effort to move toward greater focus and a healthier finish as Christian leaders.
Relational in Methodology…a significant difference exists between leading and developing leaders. In order to multiply a leader’s impact and effectiveness, a paradigm shift needs to take place from the responsibility of leading, to the responsibility of developing potential leaders. The development of a Christian leader is greatly enhanced through a relational approach, which can take place through mentoring relationships…a critical methodology where significant developmental connections are made.
Flexible in Delivery…a leadership center approach places significant importance on meeting people where they are developmentally, geographically, as well as where they are with life responsibilities. Various means of delivery systems are utilized to assist the adult learner in the life-long developmental approach.
Contextual…a leadership center approach to leadership development must be contextualized to meet the uniqueness of a given region by giving attention to contextual variables which may be present, as well as particular developmental needs of the people being served. Curriculum and processes developed need to allow for such contextual diversities.
Transferable…a life-long approach to leadership development through proven stages of development can be implemented for various contexts and regions. This approach provides a unique learning environment, providing opportunity to transfer lessons and principles of leadership development learned from one region to another as deemed appropriate.
